Autumn Falls

June, or Fall as the Americans call it.
But the Australian's Autumn is America's Spring, so is it still Fall? Will i fall? A necessary time, where the world collapses so it can survive. Death and Rebirth, that is life. We cannot live if we do not die. My romanticised dreams of eternal life no longer exist. I see that that forever would've been wasted. But the dream was evermore true now that its dead.

Will i fall?

Is this my Fall? Or am I in my Spring. I live in this world, but it is not my world. Everything is the same but it is different. I am in Spring, my Spring, experiencing Autumn, awaiting both Summer and Winter simultaneously, both death and rebirth.

Neglected

Wow, ben over a month since last post and last time did self protrait sketch. Been getting stuck into new job and being slack, and working with Altug.

Still no excuses, ill be getting back into the blog soon, hoping to give it a bit of a makeover and keeps the world up-to-date with all the zany projects that look to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

Id leave you with an inspirational sketch to keep u gagging for more, but alas my computer is currently lacking any sort of image function, even my trusty wacom tablet is out of commision.. but not for long!

1st Day on the Job.

First day at new job today.
Not too bad.. didnt really do anything, first day n all, although i expect it'll take me awhile to get used to actually working regularly again. but thats ok, i due for the stability. Plus now i should be able to afford me some bling! And whatever else it is people spend money on..

Sorta been holding off on the drew-a-day's over past couple weeks due to all the other waiting been doing. But back into i go., armed with a biro. hehe.

Earlier in the year i started a sketchbook doing a self portrait a day. But due to my inherent laziness gaps started to appear with me missing days until i went over a month without drawing. Well im back, starting up the drawing a day (or close to daily) and ill start posting them up here too. So i hope u like Drew, cos theres gonna be a lot of mes.

Time 4, time 2

Time is... a lot of things.

1.	the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present, or future; indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.

2.	duration regarded as belonging to the present life as distinct from the life to come or from eternity; finite duration.

3.	(sometimes initial capital letter) a system or method of measuring or reckoning the passage of time: mean time; apparent time; Greenwich Time.

It is also a lot more things. Time was created by humans, controlled by humans, and can be changed by humans.
I just did a google search for the 'origin of time' and got some interesting results on the front page i will have to get stuck into and read sometime soon. Mysteries of nature and the prigin of time, quatum mechanics and free will, rationally exploring fundamental assumptions of interpretation.
All sounding very exciting to a hungry mind, yet i dare to delve in at this time for fear of losing the thoughts already thought and yet to be laid out.

I said time was created by humans. At some point we decided to start recording days and events, and then later devising terms and values to monitor the shape of journey through time. It is also controlled by us. Yes, maybe we cannot control the movements of the celestial bodies of our solar system in their merry pirouettes around the sun. Day may come followed by night in their eternal loop, unaware of our mortal struggles. But we are the ones who assign values to them, try to force our will upon them to feel at ease, in control. The numbers dont even match up, we need to adjust seconds and days here and there to try and keep it correct, or what we consider to be correct, so that we can remain sane. And there you go, the third point, time can be, and is, changed by humans.

We can step many years, where people lived to different calendars than we use today, adjusted and corrected to match our science and understanding at the time. In years to come we may find the need to change things more as we learn more about the universe we occupy. And theres always the complicated thought of managing all the different times if, or when, we start colonising other planets, and to think working out current timezones is bad enough...

But if we pull in a bit more, come to today. Even now we can change time. if you put your clock back 5 minutes, then essentially you have just travelled back in time. Now you might said, "No! thats not how it works!" But. If everyone were to put back their clocks by 5 minutes, then yes, we would all be transported back in time. The individual does not control time, it is under our collective hands to maintain. Each individual though can experience time differently.

I myself, am prone at times to slip out of time. I think recently, i may have lost a whole month, not something new to me either, as you might see from my previous post, i could well have lost an entire year. It can be very hard for the individual to maintain time, though it was created by us lowly beings, it has grown to mammoth proportions, and requires many minds so that we can stay anchored in time. Alone a person can easily drift out of time, and be swept along like a leaf in the breeze, torn from its fellow leaves on the tree branch, the branch attached to the solid trunk, leading down into roots in the earth itself. So it is with us and time. Together we form the branches of our present growing out into the future air. Behind us the trunk of our past, our history leading back to our roots, our origin, our first recorded thoughts. We need this to be able to remain who we are.

And that is the purpose of time.

Im back with another infrequent post. Hurrah!

Finished of those drawings mentioned in last post.. up till 7am working the other night, only finished 3/4 in the end. But, they look damn fine. was down at the gallery before 9 to drop them of and now theyre up on the walls with the rest for two whole weeks. Well, less now cos you know, time and all that.

Busy week

Meant to post this up yesterday, cant remember why i didnt. I was just tired and forgot i suppose.

Been playing round with some inks and stuff in prep for pieces im doing this week. Busy week ahead, yups.. Having an exhibition next week, and not exactly sure whats happening with it. A lot of things involved in setting up an exhibition, even a small one like were having. I really hope someone else has it all organised so i can just concentrate on getting the work done..
But i do prefer to know a bit more bout whats going on, but theres hope.. you know, hope someone out there does.

Although really were all fools lost out at sea,
too foolish to realise were not on land.

Anyway i like how the inks are looking, a little excited bout doing the finals. Although its been awhile since i did some decent handmade works. So im also a little trepidatious. Just have to actually do it, get my feet wet, and things should be fine.
Really getting into inks and stuff again now, will have to play round a bit more.. get messy.

I am trapped in a prison. A prison with no walls or locks or guards
I am confined by nothing, not even myself.
The prison does not exist physical or mentally,
i am not trapped inside a bulding or inside my mind,
yet i am still trapped.

I am free to leave my prison. I am free to walk the world as i see fit
but the world has no place for me, so i have no place to walk,
thus i am trapped.

Of course that is not the end.

The world too is in a prison, It, unlike myself,
is confined by everything.
The entire universe holds it in place and All keeps it there.

The world is trapped.

The universe, others would say, could not be trapped, for it is everything. But, that is the confinement, the universe is all things, a thing itself that cannot be changed.

So, the universe is trapped.

I am nothing, so i am free.
That is still not the end.

Though who is to decide that being free be a blessing,
confinement a curse. Were the world, or the Verse,
be set free from its ways then all would be lost.
And chaos ensue.
People may struggle against such things,
draw conclusions to such words
but that doesnt mean they are right. So i exist, yet i do not.

Mr. Saturday Night

so im not outside tonight.. bit warm for me anyway..

had meant to do a drawing.. havent.. but meant to, seeing as i dont draw anymore, and i should, least something each day. Thats why i started this blog.. as some sort of reason to kick myself into doing what i love the most, but do the least.

Instead, i start talking to some people, and the steady decline of my mental capabilities, which was fun for awhile. The conclusion (self-proclaimed) was that im pretty dumb, but not enough to be unaware of it, and thus enjoy my stupidity. Nope, im intelligent enough to understand just how much i dont know. Although i can also be fairly confident that you dont you know some of the things i do.

Oh and then i thought about hitting a chat room. You know, an attempt to communicate with some interesting people and discuss something of value. Yeah, im a little slow.. took a couple of minutes of looking at the list of results before i realised the chances of that on an internet chatroom. The last time i was in a chat room (a long long time ago) it was 80% "a/s/l?", 18% "hey baby..." from/to ppl that'll never meet or see each others real image and 2% absue. But, if the abusing got going it would become 80% of the chat.. but only when it was helped along, which was where we came in. Kids fun, argueing (well, mostly swearing back then) at people we didnt know. I still hold today that argueing can indeed be fun.. sounds wierd, but it works in my head.

In summary, no pic for you! Instead you got a dumb rant. And chatrooms are bad, unless you want to meet your soulmate, or so they promise.

Two Months later...

Solitude.. That lovely spot between feeling sleepy

but wide awake, the joyeous point of post humor, lack luster,

sensitvie, pregenerative, regenerative, energetic, majestic.

The words of a madman feeling mad and sad and glad.

The impulse to do, to want, even the need.. but the not.

the void, the lack, the holding ones back.. the doubt,

the fear.. it all becomes clear as i sit here asleep, but

awake, i debate my choices, my needs.. Blue reeds..

I turn my back and there it is, the fabled laugh, the raucous din

questions to ask, but noone to here, why am i alone in here.

I close my eyes to shed a tear but all the world will see is cheer,

the smile without the pain within, lifes about hope not sin.

So do i live? Do i feel, do i exist... am i an eel?

I ask myself that, ive been asking awhile, ive even asked others.

Can i exist in this world, the world, your world.. im not even sure i exist in my own.

When the me that is my, is not my own, but a me who is him,

then who am i? where am i? and why am i not with you.

Ah, the sleepiness again, the solitude runs through,

runs deep and ends... nowhere else to flow.

When Elephants Fly!

For the times when the prospect of pigs flying isnt quite ludicrous enough to compare with the persons statement.
Up up and away with 15,000 pounds of pure grey meats.
Sorry, i cant tell you whats inside the balloons. Nor can i divulge the elephnats current location, suffice it to say that they are safe.

Safe and of course well-fed. Elephants can eat up to 300-400 pounds of food per day. I guess they listened to their mothers when they were told to eat their vegetables.
I could out eat an elephant though.

My Winter Coat

Spring is pretty much here, and its time to sheer the sheep and prepare for the warmer months. In my mind though, its autumn not spring, and im climbong on play equipment as the the dappled rays break through golden leaves. But i will have to come back to reality soon, and sheer my own mighty locks before the summers heat takes hold. I will miss my beard i think, it has served me well this winter. And there is nothing like a beard it seems to bring familiarity, mistaken as it may well be. Still being mistaken for John Lennon, or Jesus, is as good a conversation starter as "Hey, whats with the beard?" has been.

Yes it will be missed.

What will i do in the coming months, my social skills as reclined as they have become. Spring indeed is a time for new things though, and that will be just one of them. Stepping into spring should really be done early in the year though rather than now, so much more poetic, and, well, right to step into the new year and be greeted with the beauty and emburgeoning warm of spring, out of the cold harsh winter months.

Although, just between you and me, winter is perhaps my favourite time of year. Or maybe autumn.

You tend to lose your sense of time up here, but boy is the view nice. Limitless potential. And as my teachers always said, sometimes you need to take a step back and take a look at things. Being in the thick of things, living busily and earnestly, sometimes you lose tracks of more than just time. Its good to take that step back and watch the eddies swirl, the great pattern and mystery that is life unfold. Trick is to hold onto something when you do, to stop you floating away. Try it sometime, life is a grand view indeed.

So, its friday night, and im heading outside for like the first time all week. Who wouldnt be excited by that? Throw in the occasion, a good friends birthday, and the fact im going out comfortable as can be, even if i do look a bit like a tramp. Wow, theres nothing like the undead hordes to set you in a melancholy state of mind. The living dead. What does it even mean to be living but dead. Ah, im glad you asked...

Of course zombies themselves are awesome, and bring to mind excitable conversation, a multitude of jokes, plots and musings. Heck, who hasnt once thought about the day the zombie horde comes? Uncool people thats who. Dead people. The kind of people who will get bitten first and join the shambling drones, lusting for nothing more than a lingering instinct. I'm sorry if you in fact are one of these people, but its just a fact. But fear not, for there are guys like me out there, pumping shell after shell into the zombies, putting foolhardy folks like you out of damnation.

The World's Smallest Violin

Todays image is at the bequest of Ellie. I was sorry to read that shes losing her radio show at the end of the year, Cassettes & Chocolate Milk. Still thats months away, so if you're into indie, check out her show every monday. Well enough shameless promotion, I might take the concept of the violonist a little further and create a full blown painting. Sort of why I threw him against the photo, I thought he needed a backgound rather than just floating about. I'm thinking that I might put him on a window ledge serenading a young woman, although serenading is hardly the context of the phrase. We shall see.

Now i've been struck by a sideways deja'vu.. so im gonna go hide from it, least it stike again.

Tuesday - Cold Feet

Ah, cold feet tuesday, not wednesday as, for some obscure reason, my brain kept telling me today. Some few people might actually understand about the feet too, although i would be greatly surprised to find them reading this. Still at least now I can put any doubts aside and know in all certainly that it is indeed tuesday.

I started watching a new show today. Sadly, due i suppose to my brains indecision on the particulars of the day, i missed Rolf Harris' new show. The new show i did see is called Bones and stars David Boreanaz (Angel). Great to see him in a new show, playing a fairly similar character, although this time hes a FBI agent rather than a vampire. Rest of the characters are quite interesting too. But, im not a tv critic, so wont go into particulars, brought it up mostly because a couple of the characters remind me of people i know. Made me wonder about 'types' of people, and im not talking about personalities, but more physical charactistics. Or maybe throw in personalities too, hard to know when actors are the ones igniting your thoughts..

Anyway... the other things thats been on my mind has been over this. A mere scrap of paper with a name on it. I found it incongruously lying on my carpet the other day, and i have no idea where it came from, or who Emlyn is. Hardly a common name either, im presuming it to be a persons name, although could refer to anything. Of course, logical thought would just lead me to ask the other members of my household if its theirs, but that would destroy the mystery. And its a nice little mystery, one from which i have drawn great pleasure in mulling over the many possibilities. Possibilities i could go on about for some time here, but i've already squandered my day watchign tv and pondering, and left very little time to draw. And it is drawing i must do.

Been a few days since last posted. But to make up for it tonight you can enjoy a veritable feast of recent sketches. The one above was of me last time i took the train. It can be hard to reference
yourself, you can use reflections i guess, although you can never be 100% sure that it is you looking back.

Hmmm. When you find yourself rewriting a sentence several times, you know its time for a new paragraph, no matter how short the last was. Where was i? Train journeys. The ride home this evening was quite nice. It is rare these days to see a kind act performed by another, especially on a quiet sunday evening in melbourne, aboard and almost empty carriage. So its not surprising a smile broke across my lips and my heart lightened somewhat.It's amazing how one persons small act can affect so many others too, and how even a small thing is uncommon in today's indifferent world.

Although i think perhaps the night air also does something good for me. Strolling along the dim lamp lit streets, amongst the trees dappled by moonlight, the stars just struggling to been seen out in the suburbs. I like the quiet of the night too, how you have room for thoughts, room in which ideas pour forth to fill the void.

Bah, was thinking bout having a quiet evening, watch a movie maybe, when i remembered about this. Not that i had a hectic day, its more i pushed everything back to the evening, forgot about it, then was un-pleasantly surprised by the mass of emails and stuff that awaited me. Still, had time to sort them out and still do todays pic.

Hopefully i devote more of my time tomorrow to getting things done, including fixing the template to the blog.

Life on the Moon

Life on the moon is lots and lots of fun,

Drinking cherry cola and eating bubble gum.

Knowing you're above them all, wouldnt that be fun!

So today i was able to upload images to this thing, which is progress on yesterdays attempts, although todays pic looks a little funny, the colours are all changed. This sometimes happens when converting illustrator files to photoshop. Oh well, it still looks kinda interesting :P.
Been a long time since i've actually used illustrator, but hey, kinda been awhile since i've done any real drawing, which is sorta what this blog is about, maybe ill rant some, maybe i wont, but ill try and get some sort of image up here each day.

In other news, checked out emails earlier and find that the second issue of the zine been working on been taking off nicely online, with places like Lost in E Minor and Cool Hunting giving reviews last week, and we did an interview with this Luxembourg magazine thing you can check out here. So yeah, going off well considering we only launched it last friday. Tha was a good night too. With the project being successful, guess ill have to start my work on issue three, which is where todays image comes in, with issue 3's theme being space.

Hmmm... beginnings
